richard danskin
richard danskin is a name synonymous with
art. He has held a brush or pencil in his hand throughout his life and has
always had an acute visual memory and a perceptive eye. A native
Californian, born in 1936, Richard was in his mid-twenties when he opened
his own home design office near San Francisco. Designs for more than
six-hundred luxurious custom built homes emanated from his office – homes
that have been featured in many national magazines and have won numerous
awards. Not limited to homes, Danskin has also designed boats, automobiles,
swimming pools and exotic gardens.
Beginning in 1967 Richard had devoted himself
full time to the art of painting – working as many as 350 days per year in
an exhausting time consuming effort to combine the three dimensional quality
and color blending that are found only in true representational work.
In 1968, Richard opened his
first gallery in Carmel. Subsequently he also owned galleries in Palm
Springs, Maui, Palm Beach Florida and Palm Desert California.
Richard became nationally
known for his realistic landscape paintings and his acclaimed Americana
series of rural America. He also turned his artistic bent to interpreting
cities of the world into 3-dimensional works of art. He spent many hours
traveling and photographing cities of the world, then using his design
background combined with artistic creativity he created something whimsical.
Most clients exclaim with excitement when they see his cities with words of
"oh, I've eaten in that restaurant!" or "I stayed in that hotel!" or other
fond remembrances.
Thousands of visitors to
the gallery have viewed his paintings and he became a top selling
artist. After forty years of painting and owning Galleries, Richard decided
to retire in 2008. He continues to live in Palm Desert and visits the
gallery. A selection of his work is available in the gallery.
